The Ultimate Adult White Hot Cocoa Beverage

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

As a young child, raised in a West African household, I grew up drinking Ovaltine as my rainy season sweet escape. In fact, I drank it so much that I thought Ovaltine was only something found in my native land of Cameroon. When we came to the states, the only time we were greeted with a new jar was when a kind auntie or uncle would travel across the pond with the delicious chocolaty gift in hand. Imagine my surprise when I learned that not only was Ovaltine a global commodity, but it had hot chocolate brothers and sisters of many colors and flavors!

Over the years I weaned myself off away from hot cocoa and geared towards enhancing my pallet for tea and coffee which naturally led me to Starbucks where I first discovered the immense deliciousness of hot white chocolate. There's something special about the sweet, rich flavoring of white chocolate especially when paired with whipped cream. My mouth is salivating just thinking about a fresh cup.

In the spirit of the winter months, I decided to take a try at recreating my favorite chocolate drink, with a splash of Godiva Liqueur to stir in a bit of adulting.

Grocery List

1 11oz pack Ghirardelli White Chocolate Chips

Cocoa Powder

Sweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (I use Blue Diamond)

Vanilla extract

Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur

1 pack small marshmallows

1 large peppermint stick (cut in half)

1 can whipped cream

Recipe

Preparation

  • Bring 1 cup water & 3 cups vanilla almond milk to a high simmer.

  • Add 1 cup white chocolate chips to the hot mixture and stir until well melted.

  • Add 1tsp vanilla extract.

Enjoyment

  • Pour mixture into your favorite mug until 3/4 full.

  • Add 1 shot of @godiva white chocolate liqueur.

  • Add a small hand full of marshmallows (about 10).

  • Add whipped cream.

  • Garnish with coco powder, a few extra marshmallows, and peppermint stirring stick.

Serve with love 🤍.
