Groundnut Sweet

This is a traditional Cameroonian highly addictive treat! Groundnuts with a crunchy sugar-coated layer make the perfect on-the-go snack. They’re super easy to make and e ideal for game day, family party, or movie night.

Grocery List

Groundnuts (with skin)

Granulated Sugar

Ground Nutmeg


Vanilla Extract


  • 2 cups groundnuts with skin (I use the large ones)

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tbs ground nutmeg (add 1/2 tbs more if desired)

  • 1/2 tbs salt (add 1/2 tbs more if desired)

  • 1 tbs vanilla extract

Roast the Groundnuts

  • Roast nuts in a wok, frying pan, or baking sheet in the oven until well roasted. Stir to prevent burning. I like to add 1/2 tbs kosher salt in this step.

  • In a separate pan, combine water, sugar, nutmeg, salt (1/2 tbs), and vanilla extract. Bring to a low boil.

  • Add the liquid mixture to the nuts and stir until the liquid has evaporated.

  • Continue to stir until the nuts are completely dry.

  • Do not allow nuts to caramelize.

  • Pour onto a baking sheet and cool. The nuts should have a sugary-looking crust.
